Letter to Evo Morales

newspaper La Jornada
Sunday February 21, 2010, p. 4

Escarcega, Campeche, February 20, 2010.

Evo Morales, President of the State of Bolivia, present.

Respected President Evo Morales:

My writing is intended to offer a sincere apology for not being able to accompany you at the meeting to be with the extraordinary people of the capital of our republic.

As you probably know, following the 2006 electoral fraud, many Mexicans decided to continue the struggle, from below and to the people, to achieve the transformation that needs the public life of our country.

To this end, more than three years, we have spent visiting the villages of Mexico to collect people's feelings and not allow extinguishing the flame of hope. In the present circumstances, we believe the most important thing is to work in the organization and awareness of the people to defeat the oligarchy in a peaceful manner, establish a genuine democracy and a republic build more just, humane and egalitarian.

For this reason, in those days I meet on tour in the Yucatan Peninsula, fulfilling earlier commitments.

However, I can not express my deep respect for the way you have managed to represent the noble, conscious and progressive people of Bolivia, you has acted with loyalty to his convictions and his people. With his government have been taken into account as never before in history, more humble Bolivians, the indigenous and the poor.

is also admirable how he has led the defense of their country's natural resources, putting forward the dignity, interest and sovereignty of their homeland.

This, in essence, is the main reason for our struggle, of course, with the characteristics of our history, culture and geopolitical factors. Although in all of our America as the great poet dreamed of my country, we are at the dawn of the people who want to become one people.

I wish you a pleasant stay in our country and I send a fraternal greeting.

Andrés Manuel López Obrador, Mexico's legitimate president.
